MAY 14 - Regional Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Intervention Conference Slated for May 24
The Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Intervention (UNHSI) Conference will be held on from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, May 24, at the Chatham County Health Department on 1395 Eisenhower Drive in Savannah. The event is being held to facilitate discussion on how to provide the best possible care for infants who may have hearing issues.
Citizens throughout the Coastal Health District, including Bryan, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long, and McIntosh counties, are invited to attend. Light refreshments will be served. Others in attendance will include local audiologists, pediatricians, and representatives from other community agencies.
“The mission of UNHSI is to provide a comprehensive system of universal newborn hearing screening and assure early detection for hard of hearing and deaf children,” said Mesha Brown, UNHSI Program Coordinator. “This conference is designed so that members of the general public and medical professionals can raise questions and concerns and share their ideas.”
UNHSI is part of the Department of Community Health, Department of Public Health Children’s Special Services (CSS) program. Programs under CSS focus on the identification of children considered to be high risk for poor health, possible developmental delays, disabling medical condition and infant with possible hearing loss and provide them with intervention, follow up, education and other resources.
