MAY 2009: 'Dr. Laura' Live Event Celebrates Moms May 5-6
Dr. Laura Schlessinger, the No. 1 most-listened-to female radio talk show host in America, is coming to more than 450 movie theaters nationwide this month. “Dr. Laura Live! In Praise of Mom” takes a poignant look at mothers in this inspiring event presented live on Tuesday, May 5, and broadcast from the Irvine Barclay Theatre on the University of California, Irvine campus.“Dr. Laura Live! In Praise of Mom” comes to the big screen live on May 5 followed by a taped encore on Wednesday, May 6, at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at www.FathomEvents.com and participating theater box offices. In Savannah, “Dr. Laura Live!” will be presented at the Savannah Stadium 10, behind Savannah Mall.
Schlessinger invites moms and their families to celebrate Mother's Day and join her in a special tribute to the women who receive little recognition for their devotion to motherhood. Known for her no-nonsense advice on the popular internationally syndicated radio program, Schlessinger will recount her own life as a career woman turned stay-at-home mom showing her journey from “mis”-conception to conception, and from birth to the joys and struggles of parenting during this live stage show.
“After my difficult delivery,” Schlessinger says, “ending up with an emergency C-section (and then there were all those teenage years!), I thought I'd never want to relive any of that! However, in retrospect, it was all part of the most wondrous experience of my life: being a mommy. I can't wait to relive it all with you as we celebrate being a mommy!”
“Dr. Laura Live! In Praise of Mom” is adapted from Schlessinger's newest book, In Praise of Stay-at-Home Moms, now available from HarperCollins. The live show will feature audio and video vignettes about moms from sons, daughters, grandparents, dads and moms; and in addition, Schlessinger will answer questions from audience members live at the Irvine Barclay Theatre.
“Dr. Laura, America's top female radio talk show host, will be at her multimedia best during this timely and uplifting in-theater event celebrating moms across the country,” said Dan Diamond, vice president of Fathom. “This is a must-see for anyone who wants to honor their mother this Mother's Day.”
With a broadcast career spanning more than 30 years, Schlessinger continues to dispense her no-nonsense advice to millions of listeners each week on more than 250 radio stations nationwide. She is the author of 10 New York Times best-selling books and four children's books.
