MAY 2009: Local Artist Creates Memorable Pregnancy Art
As the owner of Inspired Creations, face and body artist Caryn L. Brown uses pregnancy belly casting and pregnancy belly painting to inspire expecting mom to celebrate the precious moments of being pregnant. Pregnancy art is a contemporary trend moving across the country.
“It is exciting and very rewarding for me to capture such a special moment in a woman's life. The roundness of a woman's pregnant belly is a natural and beautiful canvas. I am fortunate to be able to create works of art that capture the bond between women and their unborn child,” said Brown.
Lataushalyn Bride, one of Brown's clients had a pregnancy belly painting of a sunflower done recently. Bride said, “It's something different. It's neat that you can have your stomach turned into art. It was soothing and really pretty. When Kennedy [the baby] is born she will see that she was my little sunflower.”
Inspired Creations is now offering belly-painting classes for expecting moms on Tuesdays and Thursdays. During each class, expecting moms will have the opportunity to paint their own bellies using high quality, water-soluble, non-toxic and hypoallergenic body paints. No art experience is necessary for these classes.
After years of providing fantasy face painting at parties and special events, Brown fell in love with the idea of sharing her talents with expectant mothers as a body artist.
“Pregnancy art definitely appealed to me when I first learned about it at the Face and Body Art International Convention in Orlando, Fla., several years ago,” said Brown. Brown took home an Award of Excellence for Full-Face Art during that convention, and she hopes to one day receive recognition for her body art as well.
Brown said, “As a face and body artist I appreciate the conversations and memories created with each person I paint. Now, as a body artist, I truly appreciate the personal bond I help to inspire between a mother and her unborn child.”
