CF Staff Report

Gil Webb has agreed to stay on another year as Head of School at St. Andrew’s School while a search committee continues its work to find a new headmaster.  Webb had informed the board in December 2010 that he wanted to retire, but has agreed to lead the school for the 2011- 2012 year.

“We were just behind the curve,” explained Scott Searcy, the school’s spokesperson. “We didn’t get top notch applications because it was so late in the year when we began the search. Top candidates like to give their schools a year’s notice.  So they closed the search and reopened it this summer. Candidates are currently being interviewed to start July 1, 2012,” he explained, with an announcement anticipated to be made by this fall.

The search committee hosted several town hall meetings with faculty, parents and other interested parties, and a survey was sent to all constituencies.

Serving on the search committee at Andy Powers. Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Beth Ferencsik. Jeff Kole, Shannon Hill. Peter Smith and Jo Lamas.

Founded in 1947, St. Andrew’s is an Independent Presbyterian day school with a 25-acre campus on Wilmington Island in Savannah . The private school has approx.. 463 students, of which 18% are ethnic/minority, and 60-full-time faculty members of which 50% have advanced degrees.
