Royce Learning Center has received two grants to provide scholarships for its specialized academic Summer School offered through The Tutoring Center. They are the recipients of funding from The Dollar General Literacy Foundation, a national foundation that works to strengthen literacy in the communities where Dollar General Stores are located. The foundation awarded more than $4.6 million nationally to literacy programs in May, and 206 of those grants were to programs serving the literacy needs of youth through summer reading programs.
Royce’s Summer School program also received a grant from the Rotary Club of Savannah South to support scholarships. This grant was one of 7 given by the club to fund various community projects in Savannah.
These funds will be utilized to provide scholarships based on financial need for students to attend the 5-week program focused on increasing basic skills literacy for rising 1st-5th graders. Students participating in the program will make gains in reading ability and comprehension, as well as math and other areas of weakness.
